The Importance of Being Alone with God
What Is Devotion Time?
Within the tapestry of the Christian faith, the practice of being alone with God emerges as a vibrant thread. It weaves together the believer’s relationship with the divine.
In the simplest of terms, personal devotion time is nothing more than personal time with God. It can be spent in bible study, prayer, worship, or meditation. Some combine them in their own personal ways.
The entire purpose is to be alone with God and hear personal instruction from Him.
It is in the sacred commitment of personal devotion that intentional solitude is sought. It’s where Christians discover the profound significance of spending time alone with God.
The Power Within: A Journey Toward Spiritual Growth
While communal worship and fellowship are undeniably essential, the act of retreating from the world’s distractions to foster a deeper connection with the Almighty holds paramount importance in the Christian journey.
It is in these moments of intentional seclusion that Christians engage in genuine prayer, study of Scripture, meditation, and reflection.
Through this intentional solitude, we find solace, clarity, and a deep sense of purpose as they commune with our heavenly Father.

In the stillness of solitary devotion, individuals experience a unique intimacy with their Creator. Here, the Holy Spirit speaks to their hearts, unveiling the truths of Scripture and revealing God’s will for their lives.
Moreover, the practice of being alone with God enables Christians to develop a heightened awareness of their own spiritual condition.
In these moments of seclusion, they engage in self-examination and repentance, humbly surrendering their imperfections and seeking God’s forgiveness.
It is within this sacred space that believers experience transformation as they align their lives with God’s perfect plan. Being alone with God provides a sanctuary for genuine growth, restoration, and spiritual maturity.

Slow Down
Don’t Get The Cart In Front Of The Horse
So many people are trying to make things happen right now. Many are trying so hard but trusting in their own efforts and their own wisdom to know what to do.
This is where we get the cart in front of the horse. It simply doesn’t work in that order.
God has not placed the responsibility for knowing all the answers on us. He has not placed His eternal plan in our hands to carry out according to our best judgment.
Our responsibility is not to take charge but to humbly follow wherever and however He leads.
We are to follow Him no matter how unpleasant the path may be or how slow we seem to be going in comparison to our preferred speed.
He knows the way because He is The Way. He knows the end and the beginning. Furthermore, He knows every option and the outcome of them.
Proverbs 3:19 says, The Lord founded the earth by wisdom and established the heavens by understanding. Yet, we who are limited in knowledge and power dare to challenge His ways or His timing.
Come Apart Before You Come Apart
We MUST yield to His Lordship, especially in these times of uncertainty.
We have been groomed to be in a hurry and we have forgotten how to slow down. Jesus called His disciples to “come apart” to a quiet place with Him.
We need to heed that advice in this microwave world that we live in. In fact, if we don’t come apart we feel like we are going to come apart.
There is great wisdom in protecting your ability to slow down to sit before God and listen. Ps 46:10 reminds us that we should “be still and know that He is God.”
Even concerning the work of the church we are guilty of getting ahead of God. During these times when church gatherings are few, pastors and church leaders find themselves scrambling to find ways to stay in touch and lead the body of Christ through this crisis.
We should have concern for people and do what we can, but may the Lord remind us daily that all of our personal efforts are useless on their own. There is no real ministry, comfort, or encouragement accomplished without the anointing and enabling of the Holy Ghost.
It is God that moves the hearts. We have mere verbal expressions. It is God that prepares the hearts to hear. Our strategically placed words and finely crafted phrases fall short every time without an unction from the Spirit that strikes the chords of a human heart.
The power of the gospel does not rest in our ability to give a neatly prepared message.
It rests in the power of God, the divine providence of His will, and the merciful goodness that He chooses to give.
For God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the weak things of the world to confound the things that are mighty (1 Cor 1:27).
The Most Important Thing
Personal Time With God
A leader’s first priority is not to preach, teach, sing, or do any other public work.
The first priority is private devotion!
It is to sit before God daily. It is to study the word and to pray. It’s to die to self and develop the mind of Christ.
The most urgent task is surrendering our will, connecting with God, and being an example of the faith.
Too often we are more concerned with putting on a good front.
We push ourselves to fulfill obligations and be what everyone expects us to be while we are often empty, hurting, and lonely inside. Many speak about the peace of God but seldom experience it.
Let’s be clear, the reason for emptiness or lack of effectiveness is working alone.
It lacks the presence of God.
It’s that supernatural edge that makes us more than we can be by ourselves. It is that invisible Helper that enables us to accomplish His will.
May we always be dependent upon Him. May we ever trust, follow, and do what He wants instead of what we think is best.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the practice of being alone with God holds profound significance in the life of a Christian.
It offers a sacred space for believers to cultivate an intimate and personal relationship with their Creator.
Through intentional solitude, Christians nurture their faith, seek God’s guidance, and experience transformative encounters with His presence.
Being alone with God becomes a refuge for self-reflection, growth, and restoration, sustaining believers through trials and fostering a heart of gratitude and worship.
By embracing this practice, Christians embark on a transformative journey of deepening their connection with the One who lovingly sustains them.
